- I hope this helps: http://www.webmd.com/genital-herpes/herpes-tests :)
- Doctors can diagnose genital herpes by looking at visible sores if the outbreak is typical, and by taking a sample from the sore for testing in a lab. Herpes can be difficult to diagnose between outbreaks. Blood tests, which detect HSV-1 or HSV-2 antibodies, can help to detect herpes in people without symptoms or during the time between outbreaks. You can go to the free clinic to get tested for free! Good Luck!
- When most women are tested for general STD's it's usually a pap smear. I wouldn't be nervous about the process, it doesn't really hurt it's just uncomfortable for about 30 seconds to a minute. Most of the time they test for oral herpes or HSV type 1 through an antibody test. An antibody test can only be done with a blood sample. In a general STD test I don't think they will test for this.
