Can you EVER get "rid" of the herpes virus, or will you have it for the rest of your life?

My friend said she had it a couple years ago, and now she doesn't. By the way, it was vaginal.

1. There is no treatment that can cure herpes, but antiviral medications can shorten and prevent outbreaks during the period of time the person takes the medication. In addition, daily suppressive therapy for symptomatic herpes can reduce transmission to partners.
2. There is NO cure for herpes. There is medication to help suppress the virus and make the outbreaks less severe, but once a person has genital herpes they will ALWAYS have genital herpes. A person can go years without having an outbreak though, but they still have the virus. I have personally been outbreak free for two years now, but I still have the virus.
3. yes u will always carry the virus in your nervous system in your lower back (spine) you can treat the symptoms until there gone. But you can have a flare up at any time, usually when your stressed. But some people may never have a flare up again in their lives while others have them every year.
4. there is no cure for herps you will have it for the rest of your life.
