Herpes

Is it possible to get a cold sore without having the herpes virus?

I think that Im getting a cold sore. I hope that it is just a cut but I did kiss someone about a week ago that gets cold sores but they did not have one at the time. Is it possible to just get one and have it go away like a canker sore or is getting one a sign that youre infected for life?

  4. if you develop an actual cold sore - than this means you have the virus (whether it's your first or twentieth). However...it's possible you're experiencing a canker sore, which is not related to the herpes virus. Here's some info on both. http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/health/fever-blister/fever-canker.html usually a cold sore can not be spread unless the person you had contact with has an active sore at the time. However...many people actually contract the virus months or years before they have their first outbreak (ie -sore), so if it is a cold sore, it's possible you were exposed to it at another time.
  5. since a cold sore is caused by the herpes virus no is your answer. it's probably just a pimple. i've gotten them on my lip before. you are part of the american problem
  6. It is not possible to get a cold sore without the herpes virus but it is possible to get a mouth sore without it being the herpes virus. It could be because you are lacking in vitamin C ,this makes the skin in your mouth split, and it could also be a staphylococcal infection . put some antibiotic ointment (polysporin) on it and take some vitamin c. Do that three times a day until you feel better.
  7. Canker sores, cold sores are both herpes! My daughter gets the virus flair up when she is stressed. It comes in the form of horrible canker sores. She tried many meds and in the end she went on Zoloft. And yes it never goes away!
  8. If it is indeed a "cold sore", i.e. Herpes type 1, then you have the virus. The virus lays dormant until the nerve it lives in becomes stimulated to cause a breakout. If contracted as a child, your first and future breakouts are usually mild. If exposed for the first time as an adult, your initial breakout is usually quite severe. If you have never had a cold sore and this lesion is quite small, most likely it is something else. Canker sores are inside the mouth on the "softer inside tissue" and not caused by herpes. Herpes lesions are on the outer tougher skin of the lip and look like little bubbles of liquid at first, then burst to become a sore. They itch, burn and can become swollen and quite painful. If a severe breakout, then you can get additional blisters on the inside of the mouth, but that is usually with a severe first infection, or in an imunocompromised person. They can be treated with medicines if caught in the initial stage, but once the outbreak is present, it is a virus that must run its course, usually 7 to 10 days. Then the best treatment is ice, and something like Blistex ointment to keep the lesion moist so it doesnt break open and bleed, and spread. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me, as it is my area, I am a dentist. Hope this helps!
  9. A cold sore is a form of Herpes. You don't have to have sex to get them. Look it up online and you'll learn all about it. I like ask.com. You can type in any question you can think of.
  10. nah you can totally get one out of the blue. they are also stress induced...i got one before just because i was stressed out...they last about 2 weeks...and stay away from acidic foods...like certain salad dressings..and fruit...good luck!
  11. YES IT IS POSSIBLE. THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF HERPES, EVEN CHICKEN POX WHICH MANY PEOPLE GET COMES FROM A HERPES VIRUS. IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME TYPE AS A STD HERPES LIKE YOU SEE ON TV COMMERCIALS FOR VALTREX ( I THINK).
  12. A cold sore is a form of the herpes virus.
  13. I get cold sores all the time but after a few days they go away it usually because i am getting a cold .
