Herpes

How common is it to get a coldsore from someone that has oral herpes?

I learned that oral herpes and coldsores are the same thing. I heard that you shouldnt kiss someone with a coldsore because you can get it. I think someone gave me herpes on my mouth because every now and then I get little sore areas on my lips, but they are mostly where the lips meet and I know they arent canker sores. I already have genital herpes and now this. I am depressed.

  1. Coldsores are usually on the fleshy part of the lips so I think you are OK. But if you are worried talk to a doctor.
  2. cold sores and oral herpes are the same thing. It is only contagious when you come in contact with the fluid inside of the blisters, which could happen easily when you are kissing someone with an outbreak. An outbreak usually starts with a tingling feeling and then the fluid filled blisters pop up. once the outbreak dries up it's not contagious anymore. Also you could give yourself oral herpes when you have a genital herpes outbreak and touch the blisters and then your mouth. Good luck to you!
  3. People with cold sores are most infectious when there are sores or blisters present, or in the days just before an outbreak. But sometimes they can pass on the virus even when there are no symptoms. This is called asymptomatic shedding of the virus and is a very common way of passing on the herpes simplex viruses.
